Dr Hamish Simmers trained in NZ and moved to Edinburgh in 1999, completing GP training in 2003.


He has been a partner at Blackhall since 2006, and works every day except Tuesdays.


He has clinical interests in dementia, medicine of the elderly and men’s health.

Dr Macpherson qualified from the University of Dundee Medical School in 2003. After speciality training in General Practice and time spent working in Australia, Dr Macpherson joined Blackhall Medical Centre in 2016.


She has particular interests in the areas of child health and sexual and reproductive health.


She is qualified to provide and remove subdermal contraceptive implants.


Dr Macpherson works Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Dr Downer qualified as a GP in 2007 and has worked in Oxford and Australia before relocating to Edinburgh and joined Blackhall in 2016.


She works at the practice on Tues, Thursday and Friday.


She is clinical lead for palliative care, quality improvement and organises the continuing professional development programme at the practice. She has a clinical interest in women’s and child health and chronic disease management.


She is also a GP appraiser and the Cluster Lead for the NW Edinburgh Tower Cluster.

Dr Sullivan qualified as a GP in 2005 having trained in Edinburgh . She has previously worked in Fife and Edinburgh.


She works in the practice Monday to Thursday.


She is clinical lead for Nursing, Asthma and COPD, CKD and practice complaints partner.


She offers Joint Injections and Subdermal Implant insertions.

Dr Barrowman joined BMC as a GP Assistant in 2019 and works at the practice Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
