Welcome to Blackhall Medical Centre

With patients' needs at the heart of everything we do, our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need. As well as specific practice details such as opening hours and how to register, you’ll find a wealth of useful pages covering a wide range of health issues along with links to other relevant medical organisations.

Flu vaccinations for children age 2-5 years on 1st September 2018 who are not yet at school will be done by appointment in clinics with the practice nurse. Please telephone to make appointment for your childs nasal flu vaccine.

If you were aged 70 or 76 yrs on the 1st September 2018 then you are eligible for a vaccination to protect you against shingles. This is a one off vaccination so if you have already had the vaccine you do not require it again. If you fall into the eligible criteria and would like the vaccination please telephone the reception (option 1 for appointments) to make a 10 minute appointment with the practice nurse. If you are aged 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 77, 78 or 79 on 1st September 2018 and have not yet had a shingles vaccination you are still eligible. If you would like to have the vaccination please telephone the reception (as above) to make an appointment with the practice nurse.

Private Prescriptions

The GP partners at Blackhall Medical Centre reserve the right to suggest that any prescription that is recommended by a private practitioner may have to be issued as a private prescription. The usual scenario for this  is either that the particular medicine is not on the approved NHS Lothian Formulary or a medicine is being prescribed for a condition that it is not licensed for according  to the British National Formulary.

Each prescription requested from a private practitioner will need to be discussed with all the GPs on a case by case basis and this decision may take up to 5 working days.

If a prescription is required urgently it will need to be sought from the private practitioner who recommended it.
